Azeitão is one of the most important wine regions producing top quality wines in Portugal. It has many sub regions called “denominations” that are great to visit, regions that have the status of DOCG (a geographical region with a regulated wine production).

Even though most regions in Azeitão specialize in reds and “moscatel”, often using the same grape variety, based on our vast experience, we’ve set up a day tour of this region that we believe is the very best in terms of variety and quality.

Get a true taste of Portugal and explore some of the country’s best wineries. On this tour from Lisbon, visit four wineries among the best in this important wine region.

After being picked up from Lisbon, you will be transported via air-conditioned minivan as you set off to explore the cellars of four of the region’s wine producers. Visit four from the following wineries: José Maria da Fonseca, Quinta da Bacalhoa, Venâncio Costa Lima, Quinta do Piloto, Casa Mãe, Malo Tojo, Horácio Simões and Xavier Santana.

José Maria da Fonseca

The first stop will be at the José Maria da Fonseca cellar, a 100% family-owned company for 6 generations and a leader in the production and commercialization of table wines and fortified wines in Portugal. Being the oldest producer of Setúbal Moscatel, we could not have chosen a better place to taste this unique and exceptional quality wine. This tasting includes a visit to the secular museum of the cellar house, founded in 1834.

Quinta da Bacalhôa

The second stop will be, not far away, at the Quinta da Bacalhôa, one of the cellars where the project with the theme "Art, Wine, Passion" was implemented, which aims to exceed the expectations of the most demanding and curious consumers. Bacalhôa Portugal Wines, SA, one of the largest and most innovative wineries in Portugal, has developed over the years a wide variety of wines, acquiring a solid reputation and preference of domestic and international consumers.

Quinta do Piloto

We will continue to Palmela to visit the Quinta do Piloto. The Quinta do Piloto is a winery located in the region of Palmela, Portugal. Founded in 1986, it is a family property, dedicated to the production of quality wines. The Quinta do Piloto is known for its production of red wines made from the Touriga Nacional grape variety, which is grown on the property.

Venâncio Costa Lima

The next stop will be the Venâncio Costa Lima winery, one of the oldest in the Palmela region, which began its activities in 1914. Being a family company, this winery is now in its fourth generation. This winery produces some famous wines, from table wines to wines with Denomination of Origin. Here you will have the opportunity to taste typical regional products, in addition to traditional wine tastings.
